selected older works
In 2017, I began experimenting with a material called fiber paste - an acrylic medium that resembles handmade paper and old textiles when it’s dried - and a set of gouache paints I had once sworn to never use again after a failing university assignment. I was still somewhat fresh out of school and figuring out what kind of art I wanted to make, and I was intrigued by the opaque, matte finish of the gouache. Enough time had passed that I felt ready to give the paint another chance. Combined with my long-lasting fascination with textiles and fiber art, I set to work exploring how, using fine art materials, I could mimic a craft that was typically dismissed as “women’s work” and not taken seriously by the male-dominated, extremely serious art world I had spent my entire education trying to understand.
